Hey there! I'm Dalilah Husna but my friends call me Dal. If you're here then I assume you want to know more about the artist, if not then you can go back to the amazing (butnotreallykwhatever) drawings by clicking the button 'back' below.
Still here? Well, okay then. Let me bore you with my background story. (Expect a full length-essay because I love paragraphs.)
Here are the basics.
I'm a 21-year old Malaysian girl with a passion to draw .I'm obsessed with cats. Often gets mistaken for being way younger partly because I'm short (I'm 143cm, yo) and my childish ways. Others describe me as weird, awkward and funny. I eat almost everything but my mom said I have an Asian tongue. I would like to travel and see the world one day. When I'm not drawing, I'm probably reading books and manga, watching movies and anime, or listening to music. I'm a somewhat movie junkie. I can quote movies after movies, depending on genre. I usually watch comedy and action but I've also seen sappy coming-of-age and love stories. My music interest is pretty vast. I believe that good music is good music, regardless of genre and language. I have Malay, English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and even Hindi songs in my iTunes. Under the influence of my parents, avid listeners of Light & Easy fm, I also like classic songs. I have a lot of guitar and piano covers in my special playlist too ( Always wanted to play a musical instrument but I pretty suck). I listen to music all the time but I have different playlists that suits my mood. Most of the time, I listen to J-rock, Indie and K-pop. And of course, occasional nostalgic anime ost.
I've been drawing since I was little and always wanted to do arts when I grow up. But as what most people say, you can only plan your life but it will not always work out the way you want. In case you're wondering, no I'm not studying any art-related course. I'm currently doing my Bachelor degree in Pharmacy, which is a whole different world from arts. This fact however, does not dampen the fire in me to keep on drawing. I guess that's what makes me different and unique from others and what motivates me is that 'I can get the best of both worlds' from this (thanks, Hannah Montana).
My drawing style is somewhat subjective. I used to draw a lot of anime-influenced drawings but as I grow up, my style tends to shift to being much more realistic and mature. I mostly draw what I want to draw, which are most of the time people I find beautiful. I admit that K-pop idols inspire me a lot in a way that I want to 'capture' their expressions. It sounds bizarre when I put it into words but if you look at my drawings you can see that they have a similar feel in their facial expressions. I find it mesmerizing and beautiful and to me, that is art. You can say they're my muses in a way.
Traditionally, I prefer drawing with mechanical pencil first, and then using multiple medias to touch up. I have to admit that I don't have an extensive collection of art tools (like other university students, I'm pretty broke most of the times haha), but I make do with what I currently have. Usually, I use Faber Castell colour pencils, some copic markers, different grades of carbon pencils, gel pens and sharpie markers. I've experimented with water colours while I was in high school too and I often shift to that media as well.
I've only started drawing digitally since I got my Ipad 2 when I was 16. Actually even before that, I've been messing around with Microsoft Paint but only using a mouse. The first few tries on my Ipad was without a stylus. I explored a lot of drawing apps back then; Sketchbook Pro, IbisPaint, Tayasui Sketches. I'm currently using Procreate on my Ipad. Most of the time, I abandon my stylus to 'finger-paint' instead. I also paint using SAI Paint Tool on my laptop after I got my first graphic tablet, a simple wacom bamboo tablet from my brother. I've been experimenting since then, still trying to discover my own colour.
I personally think that my art is 'messy' at times but as a friend of mine said to me, 'a mess IS an art'. I stan by my notion that 'anything goes' in my art. Art is an expression. It's really up to you what you want to show the world.
